They use these following methods for accessing any users data.
- Phishing
- Malware
- Malicious Mobile Apps
- Smishing
- Insecure Networks
As Far I know they dont hold any of the data with them as they use it for some or other form to penetrate into your systems, and get to use your systems space. Till they live their own traces of information about the hacking its absolutely not known to any outsiders.
